Midjourney consistently produces the most polished results for illustrations, concept art, and stylised photography. Operates via Discord (or a web interface). Requires a subscription — no free tier.

DALL·E 3

Integrated directly into ChatGPT Plus. DALL·E 3 is notably better than its predecessors at rendering text in images and following precise compositional instructions. Convenient if you’re already using ChatGPT, but output quality sits below Midjourney for most artistic work.
Stable Diffusion

Stable Diffusion is open source — you can run it locally on a GPU, use fine-tuned community models (via CivitAI), and build automated pipelines. The learning curve is steep, but the ceiling is high.
Works best with a dedicated GPU. Tools like ComfyUI or Automatic1111 provide interfaces for local use.
Best for: open source generation with strong photorealism; a newer alternative to Stable Diffusion.
Flux (by Black Forest Labs) is a more recent open-weight model with notably strong photorealistic output. Available for local use and through various hosted APIs. Rapidly gaining adoption as a Stable Diffusion alternative.

Recommendation: Midjourney if you want results fast and don’t mind paying. Flux if you want open source with comparable quality and are willing to set it up.
